The House That Built Me

I know, I’ve posted this on FB… but I couldn’t help it. I suddenly feel so homesick and the “home” is not even the one I’m living now or the one at my kampung. I miss this “home”..

The House That Built Me

I miss this house so much it hurts. It’s like missing someone you love.

I spent 14 years in this house, 18 years in this place though but we stayed at a different house for about 4 years.

I know this house is not even pretty. It’s made of zinc on the outside and plywood on the inside. If this house was built in KK, we would probably fry inside. But it was built at the foot of Mt Kinabalu and at that time, it was misty almost all day. My room was upstairs, the leftmost window. Every morning, when I open the curtain [back window], I was greeted by the majestic blue mountain. I took it for granted back then – the view – and what I would give to see the view again.

the bathroom was built with white tiles, there’ a big green bathtub and an old style heater.

The big tree on the right of the picture used to have little red fruit and birds like it there. Being a little tomboy back then, I liked to take a few shots at the birds with my slingshot and I did hit some. Kejam, kan? I’m sorry, but it was a lot of fun 😛

my sister’s tali pusat was buried under the house and I still remember the exact spot because I buried it. I was 12, coming to 13 and I remember, it was inside a Nespray tin and I dug a shallow hole to bury it. Thank God the dogs never found it  🙂

the stairs at the side of the house was the originally built one, but when the Management of the Mamut Quarters decided to renovate the house, my mom ask them to leave the stairs there so she can put her flower pots on them.

in front of the house is where we used to play, had our dancing practices or sometimes the place to just sit/lie on.

I miss this place A LOT!

Miranda Lambert – The House That Built Me

I know they say you cant go home again.
I just had to come back one last time.
Ma’am I know you don’t know me from Adam.
But these handprints on the front steps are mine.
And up those stairs, in that little back bedroom
is where I did my homework and I learned to play guitar.
And I bet you didn’t know under that live oak
my favorite dog is buried in the yard.

I thought if I could touch this place or feel it
this brokenness inside me might start healing.
Out here its like I’m someone else,
I thought that maybe I could find myself
if I could just come in I swear I’ll leave.
Won’t take nothing but a memory
from the house that built me.

Mama cut out pictures of houses for years.
From ‘Better Homes and Garden’ magazines.
Plans were drawn, concrete poured,
and nail by nail and board by board
Daddy gave life to mama’s dream.

I thought if I could touch this place or feel it
this brokenness inside me might start healing.
Out here its like I’m someone else,
I thought that maybe I could find myself.
If I could just come in I swear I’ll leave.
Won’t take nothing but a memory
from the house that built me.

You leave home, you move on and you do the best you can.
I got lost in this whole world and forgot who I am.

I thought if I could touch this place or feel it
this brokenness inside me might start healing.
Out here its like I’m someone else,
I thought that maybe I could find myself.
If I could walk around I swear I’ll leave.
Won’t take nothing but a memory
from the house that built me.

My Favourite Disney Movies

I’m always fond of Disney’s Movies. I grew up watching Disney cartoons every day. I vaguely remember back when I was about 3 or 4 years old, Mickey & Donald will be on TV in the evening, maybe at about 4 o’clock because I remember my dad will be back from work after the show finished. When we first got our VCR, my mom would record all the shows so that my brother and I can watch them in the morning while my mother do all the houseworks. Magical isn’t it? Just by putting on the video tape of Mickey & Donald would get us to behave and mom can do her work in peace.

After we have the VCR, my dad also start renting video tapes every week and one of the videos would be a Disney classic cartoons. There would be Snow White, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty, Pinnochio, Bambi, Dumbo, Chip and Dale and of course, my all time favourite Mickey & Donald!

And soon after, Disney began to make more movies and cartoons and I love each and everyone of them. The colourful pictures, the beautifully painted cartoon characters, the songs – how can anyone not love Disney? I’m now a mother of two and I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m still in love with all the Disney’s movie. My 3 yrs old daughter loves them too! We would watch the Disney movie together and I even sing along to the songs I’ve came to know so well, especially the Snow White’s Song. My 1 ½ yr old son is also a fan of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. He would dance to the Hot Dog song and would go “Meeska Mooska Mickey Mouse!!!” when Mickey ask everyone to say the magic words.

So, here I have compiled my Top 15 list – 10 Disney Movies and 5 Disney Characters.

Actually I love all Disney Movies / Cartoons, but the above are my favorites. How about you? Why don’t you share with me at least 5 of your favourite Disney Movies / Cartoons / Character / Songs and see if we have the same taste…

From cartoons, movies and songs, Disney has also now created games suitable for kids and for all Disney lovers (who, I guess, is always young at heart). One of the games I’m talking about is Disney Bingo DVD game. It lets kids learn numbers, colors, and matching skills with their favorite Disney characters and movie clips. Oooo… sounds like a perfect game for my kids! (And me). I can already imagine how fun it will be to spend (quality) time with my kids, playing games that not only educates them but also has all the characters and clips from my Top 15 favorites!

So people, I’m sure you’re a Disney fan too, why don’t you check it out for yourself at Screenlife’s website. There is also a video clip of the Disney Bingo game for you to get a closer look on what and how the games actually looks like.

If you like what you see and you’re wondering where else can you get a hold of this game, head on to Amazon.com or Drugstore.com and purchase your very own Disney Bingo game. I’m definitely getting one for myself.

And why are you still here? Aren’t you suppose to go and check out Disney Bingo already????
